David Renton is an award-winning educationalist and innovative educator, who has been teaching for the past 19 years. For 18 of those years he taught in the Scottish college sector, but for the past year he has been teaching Upper School CS in an American High School. He has primarily taught Computer Games Development but has also taught all areas of Computer Science. He is also a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and has been awarded Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for 6 years running for his work with games-based learning using Microsoft gaming devices such as Kinect. Most recently he has been looking at how Virtual Reality can be used in education. He has won awards for innovation in education using technology from SQA, ALT and JISC. He was also nominated for a BAFTA in 2017 in the category of Young Game Designer Mentor of the year.
David also has industry experience with over 10 years’ experience working as a software developer and ran his own software company for 5 of those years. He regularly speaks and runs workshops, at education and technology events around world. He has also developed qualifications for the Scottish Qualifications Authority, where he was a lead developer.
