Biography

After spending 15 years in the classroom teaching French and English in five different countries, Avery co-founded Affordance Studio, a 10-person educational game company in Montreal. The team has several titles in their portfolio, including Morbus Delirium, created for the Montreal Science Centre, and Ready to Negotiate, which has been sold into 500 schools in Quebec. Avery’s research interests in language learning and transformative games have been funded by multiple programs included Entente-Canada-Quebec and he has been published in the EuroCALL journal. Avery is on the Board of Directors for EDTEQ (http://edteq.ca/), a not-for-profit association in Quebec which brings together over 50 edtech companies and which works closely with the Quebec Ministry of Education to improve access to educational technology in classrooms province-wide.
